Many women fear that freedoms gained in the 20 years since the fall of the Taliban will be sacrificed in the talks. There are currently just five women are included in the 21-member negotiating team. The real concern so far has been that the women of Afghanistan are being represented by only a few symbolic figures negotiating a possible return of the Taliban. Women want permanent peace in which women’s rights are not trampled. This event will explore the role of women in the peace process.

Speakers:

Ashley Jackson (Moderator), Research Associate and Co-Director, Centre for the Study of Armed Forces, Overseas Development Institute
